Tori Amos announces ‘Strange Little Girls’ Remaster on Vinyl with unreleased tracks to boot

Two unreleased tracks and two b-sides expand this 2001 classic

‘Strange Little Girls’ was Tori Amos’ sixth solo album, featuring 12 cover tracks originally written by men. Its release one week after 9/11 may have reduced its cultural impact, but Tori’s live performance of ‘Time’ on The Late Show with David Letterman has long been cited as a healing balm for the grieving. In a time when everyone was cancelling performances, she continued to tour, which in turn led to her 2022 album Scarlet’s Walk. This week, Tori Amos announced the album is being remastered and it’s coming to Vinyl for the first time. The album will be expanded with four additional tracks.

Two of the tracks are previously released B-sides. ‘Only Woman Bleed’ (Alice Cooper) and personal favourite ‘After All’ (David Bowie) are two piano and vocal tracks with very different moods. The former is a bluesy gospel, whereas the latter has a “vampire castle dripping in blood” energy splashed all over it. Two previously unreleased tracks will also appear. ‘Growin’ Up’ (Bruce Springsteen) is the first, and is currently out as the promotional single. It featured a raspy Tori jamming away with bold lurches of piano tumbles and rolling drums. The second will be ‘Hoover Factory’ (Elvis Costello). It’s great to have more songs from the vaults coming out. Tori Amos has referenced in interviews that she also tried out ‘Fear of a Black Planet’ (Public Enemy), ‘I’m Sick of You’ (Iggy Pop), and ‘Marlene Dietrich’s Favourite Poem’ (Peter Murphy), but these have not been included in the expanded release. I wonder if that’s because they were never finished, or if they just aren’t for release right now.

‘Growin’ Up’ is a beefy, bold rock track and is a great addition to the album. In some ways, it reminds me of her 2009 album Abnormally Attracted To Sin, with its vintage rock feel. The single is out now. ‘Strange Little Girls 25th anniversary reissue’ will be rereleased on 20th February 2026. You can pre-order it now.
