Charlotte Martin’s latest single ‘Sun / Moon’ sees the piano-based singer-songwriter firing on all cylinders. Since launching her SLA Music School, where she teaches songwriting, performance and vocal coaching, Char Mar as she is affectionately known online has been overflowing with creativity. Following some collaborative efforts on her excellent 2023 EP ‘Knives and Bouquets‘, which saw Martin returning to vocal songs after a period of instrumental piano music, ‘Sun / Moon’ is the latest single from her forthcoming 19th album. We don’t know the title yet but it’s a return to a full band sound, big piano riffs, and huge stratospheric vocals.
‘Sun / Moon’ was released on Valentine’s Day and was a bit lost promotion-wise due to the LA fires, where Charlotte Martin is based. Thankfully, her place survived, but naturally, it wasn’t a top priority to promote a single while trying to navigate the fires. It is an incredibly powerful and emotive track, using octaves of piano notes and a dynamic vocal range that still leaves me reeling 19 albums in. Higher Plain Music cannot wait for more in what is shaping up to be another career highlight for the charismatic singer-songwriter.
